After these verbs to + infinitive expresses future, while the gerund refers to past, relative to the time of the verbs. [1]

Setelah verb berikut ini to+infinitive menerangkan masa depan, sementara gerund menerangkan masa lampau, relatif terhadap waktu dari verb.

the verbs are:

FORGET, REMEMBER, REGRET, GO ON, STOP, TRY


examples:

  1. I forgot to pack my bags. –> Saya lupa (bahwa saya) belum mengemas tas-tas saya.
  2. I forgot packing my bags. –> Saya lupa (bahwa saya) telah mengemas tas-tas saya.
  3. I remembered to meet her at Ampera. –> Saya ingat akan bertemu dengannya di Ampera. (remainder)
  4. I remembered meeting her at Ampera. –> Saya ingat telah bertemu dengannya di Ampera. (memory)
  5. I regret to inform you. –> Saya merasa menyesal akan memberitahumu. (penyesalan muncul sebelum memberitahukan)
  6. I regret informing you. –> Saya merasa meyesal telah memberitahumu. (penyesalan muncul setelah memberitahukan)
  7. I stopped to answer the phone. –> Saya berhenti, lalu menjawab telpon. (Sebelumnya melakukan pekerjaan lain lalu berhenti, kemudian menjawab telpon)
  8. I Stopped answering the phone. –> Saya berhenti menjawab telpon.

For examples number 7 and 8 look at these two illustrations.

  1. The phone rang when I was eating. So I stopped to answer the phone.
  2. The phone continued to rang and rang again and I got annoyed. So I stopped answering the phone.
